I am long overdue to profile one of you. This time, I'm picking on a business colleague and friend, Jill Dyche (pronounced dish-ay). You may have seen her name in the sidebar under "More Blogs." Read on and you'll understand why she's on my list.
Meeting Tamara the Dork
Jill and I met in 2005. On a phone call. While I was on vacation with my family in San Francisco. As I paced round and round the parking lot at the Residence Inn. [Yes, I still pace.] I wanted to give her 2nd book away as a promotional item for a direct mail campaign for one of my product lines.
As part of this promotion, I also wanted her to join my company in presenting an online seminar to our prospects. I remember our first conference call with all the players. So does everyone else. As part of the introductions, instead of having everyone share something "smart" about themselves, I had everyone answer this question: "What is your favorite ice cream?"
Now granted, my work colleagues weren't phased by my approach because they're used to my dorkiness; but for the new players (like Jill), it was probably a bit off the beaten track. Yet everyone played, and to this day, people still remember that moment. Never underestimate the power of ice cream and the human psyche. By the way, Jill's favorite ice cream is Haagen Dazs' Dulce de Leche.
Synchronized Swimming, Step Aside
Last year, Jill and I were in Las Vegas for an industry
conference. Jill was there to make multiple presentations (she is one of the industry favorites) and I was there to get smarter. For fun, she invited me, along with other business colleagues of hers, to go to La Reve, a Cirque de Soleil water show. It was the most fascinating show I've ever seen. The music, the choreography, the lighting, the staging, the EVERYTHING - was exhilirating. I bought the CD. It was a night I'll always remember.
But Wait, There's More!
On Sunday, I sent an email to Jill asking her if I could profile her on my blog. Then yesterday, I woke up to read her latest blog post. What did she write about? Surprisingly and wittingly, she wrote about herself - and this is before she saw my email. There's no denying it: This week is all about Jill!
Please venture on over to her blog site and read Jill's version of Jill. It's much more enlightening and very entertaining!! It's a pleasure and honor to know you, Jill!
